Understanding File Types in Mod Advisor

Last Updated: 7/2/2025

There are 5 different mod file types:

Primary, Historical, Future, Scenario and Imported.

These settings are determined automatically but can be adjusted via the Action Menu and selecting the Edit Icon.

  • Primary: This is what Mod Advisor considers to be the source of truth and is what is used in the benchmarking data set. There can be only one primary file type per rating effective date and per calculation type or you will get an error. For example you could have a file with a rating effective date of 1/1/26 with the calculation type of NCCI and CA. The system will give you an error if you have two primary file types with a date of 1/1/26 and both are NCCI.

  • Future: This file type is populated when you create a future mod.  It is not uncommon to create a future mod that will eventually be the Primary File for the upcoming year.  If that is the case just update the setting to be primary.
  • Historical: This file type is populated when you create a historical mod.
  • Scenario: This file type is populated when you create a duplicate mod.
  • Imported: This file type appears when you have imported file information from a third party. For accurate benchmarking and analytics, it is important to correctly update each file type if it is incorrect.
